According to PERKESO's latest FAQ, the June 2026 contribution remains compulsory, as the LINDUNG 24 Jam (SKBBK) scheme came into effect on 1 June 2026, when participation was still mandatory for Malaysian employees. The Government's subsequent decision to make the scheme voluntary does not affect the compulsory contribution for June 2026.
Generally, No.
This is one of the most important points.
Under the current PERKESO FAQ:
✔ Employees have a one-time opportunity to opt out.
✔ If you remain in the scheme, you generally continue participating even if you change employers.
Therefore, employees should consider the long-term implications before making their decision.
Yes.
According to PERKESO's latest interview, employees who have opted out of LINDUNG 24 Jam may subsequently choose to participate in the scheme again.
However, rejoining the scheme is subject to the procedures and requirements determined by PERKESO.

Unlike a fixed-sum Personal Accident insurance policy, certain benefits under LINDUNG 24 Jam are calculated based on the statutory formula prescribed under the Employees' Social Security Act 1969, taking into account factors such as:

One of the biggest misconceptions is that LINDUNG 24 Jam simply adds accident insurance coverage.
In reality, it extends PERKESO's protection beyond work-related accidents, providing employees with protection for eligible non-work-related accidents occurring within Malaysia.
The comparison below, published by PERKESO, illustrates how the protection has expanded under LINDUNG 24 Jam.

As shown above, employees may become eligible for additional statutory benefits following a covered non-work-related accident, including:
| Benefit | Coverage |
|---|---|
| Medical Benefit | Treatment at PERKESO panel clinics or Government hospitals. No monetary limit (subject to the Employees' Social Security Act 1969 and PERKESO's conditions). Where treatment is obtained from a non-panel clinic or private hospital, reimbursement may be claimed subject to PERKESO's prescribed rates. |
| Temporary Disablement Benefit | Income replacement during certified medical leave resulting from a covered non-work-related accident. |
| Permanent Disablement Benefit | Compensation payable for permanent disablement resulting from a covered non-work-related accident. The degree of permanent disablement is assessed by PERKESO's Medical Board. The benefit is generally calculated at 90% of the employee's average daily insured wage and determined based on the employee's insured wages, age and degree of permanent disablement. Benefits may be paid as a lump sum (up to 20% disablement) or as 20% lump sum with the remaining 80% paid as monthly periodic payments where the assessed degree of permanent disablement exceeds 20%. |
| Constant Attendance Allowance | RM500 per month for employees requiring continuous personal care due to severe permanent disablement. |
| Rehabilitation Benefit | Rehabilitation services (e.g. physiotherapy, occupational therapy, prosthetic devices and Return-to-Work Programme). No monetary limit, subject to PERKESO's conditions. |
| Dependants' Benefit | Ongoing benefits payable to eligible dependants if the employee dies due to a covered non-work-related accident. |
| Funeral Benefit | RM3,000 funeral assistance. |
| Education Benefit | Education assistance for eligible children, subject to PERKESO's terms and conditions. |
There is no one-size-fits-all answer.
You may consider remaining if you:
✅ Have limited accident protection.
✅ Have dependants relying on your income.
✅ Do not receive employer-sponsored accident coverage.
✅ Value rehabilitation and income replacement benefits.
You may consider opting out if you:
✅ Already have comprehensive accident protection.
✅ Fully understand the long-term implications.
✅ Have compared your existing coverage with LINDUNG 24 Jam.
The contribution is prescribed as being borne by the employee.
However, the current PERKESO FAQ does not expressly prohibit an employer from voluntarily bearing the employee's contribution as an employment benefit.
If an employer intends to do so, it should first consider:
Many employees assume they can stop contributing after changing jobs.
Under the current FAQ, this is generally not the case.
If you remain in LINDUNG 24 Jam now, participation generally continues even after joining a new employer.
If your new employer does not bear the contribution, it will normally be deducted from your salary.
✔ It is voluntary for Malaysian employees.
✔ The current opt-out opportunity is only available until 31 August 2026.
✔ Participation generally continues even after changing employers.
✔ It covers eligible non-work-related accidents, not general illnesses.
✔ Consider the benefits, your existing protection and your personal circumstances before deciding.
For fresh graduate, participation in LINDUNG 24 Jam (SKBBK) is initially applicable upon commencement of employment.
However, if a fresh graduate does not wish to participate, they may submit an opt-out declaration within 30 days from the employee registration date.
If no opt-out declaration is made within the 30-day period, the employee will continue participating in the scheme in accordance with PERKESO's requirements.
HR Tip: Employers should inform newly hired employees of this 30-day election period during onboarding so that they can make an informed decision and complete the necessary declaration, if applicable.

Employees who do not wish to continue their participation in LINDUNG 24 JAM may choose to opt out by completing the Notis Pelepasan Liabiliti Skim LINDUNG 24 JAM provided by PERKESO.
The opt-out request can be submitted through either of the following methods:
The general process for online submission is as follows:
Employees may access the PERKESO LINDUNG Faedah Portal https://lindungfaedah.perkeso.gov.my/auth/ and log in using their registered account details.
Employees are required to complete the Perakuan Pelepasan Liabiliti, confirming their decision not to continue with the LINDUNG 24 JAM coverage.
By opting out, employees acknowledge that they will no longer receive protection under LINDUNG 24 JAM for eligible non-employment-related accidents during the opted-out period.
Submit the online Opt-Out application.
Download the Opt-Out Confirmation/Status from the portal.
Many discussions focus on the monthly contribution of RM45 to RM75, but the more important question is whether the protection provided aligns with your personal circumstances. Before deciding to stay in or opt out, compare LINDUNG 24 Jam with your existing accident coverage, understand the statutory benefits, and consider the long-term implications of your decision.
