Q: My child is pursuing a full-time Advanced Diploma programme at an overseas institution. Am I eligible to claim the RM8,000 child relief?
A: No. To qualify for the RM8,000 child relief for a child who is receiving full-time instruction outside Malaysia, the child must be unmarried, over the age of 18, and receiving full-time instruction in respect of a degree (including a Master's or Doctorate degree) or an equivalent qualification. In addition, the course or educational institution must be recognised or approved by the relevant Malaysian government authority.
As an Advanced Diploma programme is generally not regarded as a degree or a qualification equivalent to a degree, it would not qualify for the RM8,000 child relief.
